Who we are

Ipas is a global network committed to expanding access to abortion and contraception so that all people can determine their own futures. Ipas United States works to ensure that abortion is recognized as an essential human right and is available to those who need it when and how they want it. With our partners across the country, we fight to preserve and expand abortion access through educational resources, training, and advocacy.

What is abortion with pills?

Abortion with pills uses a combination of the medications mifepristone and misoprostol, which work together to empty the uterus by starting a process like a miscarriage. When used in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, this method is up to 98.5% effective. And when mifepristone is not available, misoprostol is safe to use alone and still very effective. Abortion with pills is suitable for people of all ages and sizes, including adolescents, and will not affect a person’s ability to carry future pregnancies.
