Ipas honored for outstanding COVID-19 response in the DRC

Ipas has been awarded the Mukendi Mbayi Trophy for exceptional work to protect sexual and reproductive health and rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) during the COVID-19 crisis.

The trophy is presented annually to honor and bring together national and international humanitarian organizations in the DRC who have made a distinguished commitment to the well-being of the community. This year marked the first time an award was presented for work in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Dr. Jean-Claude Mulunda, country representative for Ipas DRC, accepted the trophy at an event sponsored by the Canadian embassy and attended by government officials, representatives from the DRC President’s office and several foreign ambassadors.

“It was a great opportunity for us to thank the government for their commitment to sexual and reproductive health and rights,” says Mulunda. “We have worked closely with the government to ensure that the pandemic response strategy includes sexual and reproductive health services.  And we continue to push for progressive standards and guidelines that will expand access to reproductive health care during and beyond the COVID crisis.”
