Chrispine Gwalawala Sibande
Chrispine Gwalawala Sibande, a human rights lawyer with expertise in sexual and reproductive health rights, leads Ipas’s work in Malawi. A practicing lawyer and member of the Malawi Law Society, Sibande has a Masters of Law degree (LLM) from the University of Free State in South Africa and received a Bachelor of Laws degree with honors (LLB, Hons) from the University of Malawi. He serves as national coordinator of the Coalition for the Prevention of Unsafe Abortion (COPUA), a broad coalition that includes more than 40 organizations in Malawi. Prior to joining Ipas, he was deputy director for legal services at the Malawi Human Rights Commission and also served as a member of the Malawi Special Law Commission on Review of Domestic Violence Law.
