At Ipas Latin America and the Caribbean, Marisol Escudero Martinez brings more than 13 years of experience as a legal and policy expert to her work with government agencies, civil society organizations, and community partners to help build resilient abortion and contraceptive ecosystems.
Since joining Ipas six years ago, she has successfully led several initiatives with multinational and interdisciplinary teams for the advancement of the right to safe abortion in Latin America.
Across her professional life, Escudero Martinez has collaborated with legislators and health authorities to design gender-sensitive national laws and regulatory frameworks that improve access to sexual and reproductive health care. She has also prepared submissions to United Nations bodies and special procedures on the state of women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights in Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition, she has provided legal advice and contributed amicus briefs—expert legal submissions from third parties—in cases challenging harmful laws that restrict access to abortion and reproductive rights.
Before joining Ipas, Escudero Martinez worked as a policy consultant in Geneva and London. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and a joint Master of Science in Health Policy, Planning and Financing from the London School of Economics and Political Science and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
