Koma S. Jehu-Appiah, MD, MPH

Dr. Koma S. Jehu-Appiah, MD, MPH, is Country Leader for Ipas Ghana. Dr. Jehu-Appiah comes to Ipas with more than 15 years of relevant experience, having worked extensively for government, bilateral and multilateral donors, and national and international civil society organizations (CSOs). Among other qualifications, Dr. Jehu-Appiah holds a doctorate in medicine and a master’s degree in public health, and he has been a medical officer in one of Ghana’s premier teaching hospitals (Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital) and a medical consultant/health advisor. Before joining Ipas, he was a consultant to the Health Advisor of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Accra and represented the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development in health-policy matters. He was involved in building a coalition of CSOs in health in Ghana and served as the coalition’s first elected National Chairman in 2000. He has also served as the Secretary for the Ghana Medical Association. Dr. Jehu-Appiah is a strong advocate for adolescent reproductive rights, and his community service includes being a regular host of a weekly youth-oriented radio program encouraging behavior change in response to HIV/AIDS and other health-related issues.
