September 1, 2006

Jamie D. Brooks (NHeLP), Patty Skuster (Ipas), Sarah Horsley (NNAF)

Abortion. Laws and Policies. Human Rights. Reproductive Rights.

2006

Issued for the 30th anniversary of the Hyde Amendment, this flier explains how the legislation limiting Medicaid funding for abortions deprives low-income women of access to abortion, a right by guaranteed by many human rights agreements. While it disproportionately affects women of color and the poor in the United States, the Hyde Amendment also spawned similar legislation restricting abortions for women in some international settings, federal prisons, the military and the Peace Corps.
