In sub-Saharan Africa, estimates for maternal mortality reach 920 deaths — mostly caused by postpartum hemorrhage — per 100,000 live births. This four-page brochure describes how the medicine misoprostol can prevent and treat a number of pregnancy-related conditions, including postpartum hemorrhage and incomplete abortion. It also provides an overview of current trends in medical abortion and outlines various strategies for improving access to these live saving technologies.
