Since the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in 1994, there have been many signs of progress in Africa related to abortion care. At the same time, other persistent issues in Africa slow or threaten progress toward universal access to important reproductive-health services. This review of post-ICPD developments in sub-Saharan Africa offers examples of progress in the region in abortion-related care.
