Poor reproductive health remains the leading cause of death and illness for women of reproductive age, particularly in the poorest countries. Complications from unsafe abortion result in approximately 67,000 deaths and at least 5 million serious injuries annually, all of which are preventable. Because sheds light on these issues and seeks to help United States citizens make connections to women around the world. The third issue of Because includes articles regarding health-care reform and abortion, the effect of U.S. policies at home and abroad, and black women and the abortion debate.
