Abortion. Laws and Policies. Human Rights. Reproductive Health. Reproductive Rights.

2009

Poor reproductive health remains the leading cause of death and illness for women of reproductive age, particularly in the poorest countries. Complications from unsafe abortion result in approximately 67,000 deaths and at least 5 million serious injuries annually, all of which are preventable. Because sheds light on these issues and seeks to help Americans make connections to women around the world. The first issue of Because includes articles on reproductive health care in Ethiopia, the perception of abortion as a human right in Latin America, and the broad effect of U.S. foreign policy on women's health in the United States and the rest of the world.
