Today, Ipas launched a new medical abortion portal on its Web site. The portal is designed to inform visitors about medical abortion and Ipas’s initiative to introduce and expand access to it, which includes training and service, research, community engagement, building partnerships, and policy efforts.
"We designed our Web content to help people around the world in their own efforts to understand medical abortion and increase access to this important method," said Traci Baird, director of Ipas’s Medical Abortion Initiative.
Medical abortion, a safe and effective technology that uses pills to end a pregnancy, is a noninvasive method that can be used in a range of settings. It’s especially promising for women most at risk of turning to dangerous or ineffective abortion methods, and for those for whom cost, distance or other factors are barriers to obtaining other safe services.
The site, www.ipas.org/medicalabortion, features new publications, news about medical abortion, research findings, training information and awareness-raising tools. There is also a direct link to register for Ipas’s new e-newsletter on medical abortion.
