For more than 35 years, Ipas’s core work has included the manufacturing and distribution of high-quality, life-saving manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) instruments. Ipas has developed an extensive global network of more than 60 distributors and made Ipas products available in more than 135 countries.
Building on this progress, Ipas is now supporting a new approach to increase women’s access to a wider range of reproductive health technologies. We are pleased to announce the creation of a new not-for-profit company, WomanCare Global LLC, which will operate separately as a licensed subsidiary of Ipas.
WomanCare Global has been created to expand the availability and use of high-quality women’s reproductive health technologies around the world. The new company will focus on reaching women most in need with safe and effective abortion and contraceptive products, with special attention to new and underutilized technologies. In addition to increasing access, WomanCare Global will work to reduce the costs of essential technologies, ensuring low pricing for the public sector and affordable prices for the commercial sector.
WomanCare Global will use an “Honest Broker” model to ensure that its work complements and strengthens the collective investments of donors and NGO partners. WomanCare Global will, among other things:
• Provide unbiased information on safe and effective reproductive health and family planning products that meet the WCG criteria of quality, innovation and choice
• Identify gaps in technology access at a country level and work to ensure availability of these key technologies for women most in need, (including making links or referrals to products of partners as appropriate)
• Connect manufacturers of innovative and underutilized products with distribution networks and tender opportunities in underserved markets
• Serve as a broker and negotiator for bulk and bundled purchases of high quality products, providing a potential mechanism for “win-win” collaboration with other reproductive health partners, maximizing donor investments.
The Chief Operating Officer of WomanCare Global is Saundra Pelletier, an award-winning, results-driven pharmaceutical executive with extensive experience in women’s reproductive health products. Ms. Pelletier has assembled a senior management team of seasoned pharmaceutical executives who collectively possess more than 150 years of in-depth pharmaceutical experience with specific emphasis on quality and regulatory technical expertise, product launch experience and sales and marketing leadership.
Ipas will work closely with WomanCare Global while continuing our support for clinical training and improving service delivery, policy and advocacy efforts, innovative communications to reach women in their communities, and research, monitoring and evaluation. Elizabeth Maguire, President and CEO of Ipas, will also serve as Chair of the Board of WomanCare Global.
As of October 1, 2009, WomanCare Global will be handling the exclusive distribution of Ipas MVA instruments. More information will be available soon about other products and resources available through WomanCare Global.
