This month, Ipas will release a new magazine: Because. The magazine, which targets a U.S. audience, will highlight reproductive health around the world. Readers will gain a better understanding of the impact of poor reproductive health, which remains the leading cause of death and illness for women of reproductive age, particularly in the poorest countries.
Complications from unsafe abortion result in approximately 67,000 deaths and at least 5 million serious injuries annually, all of which are preventable. Because intends to shed light on these issues and help Americans make connections to women around the world.
The first issue of Because includes articles on reproductive health care in Ethiopia, the perception of abortion as a human right in Latin America, and the broad effect of U.S. foreign policy on women’s health in the United States and the rest of the world.
“Because will inform American readers on important reproductive health topics, especially the need for safe abortion care and family planning around the world,” says Ipas President and CEO Elizabeth Maguire. “By sharing stories from the United States and other countries, we hope that Americans will better understand the global context of sexual and reproductive health and rights. We want the articles in Because to spark discussion.”
