More Tasmanian women will take part in abortion tourism without the abortion pill RU486, an expert says.
A significant change in access to the controversial pill means Tasmanians will travel for the drug, says prominent gynaecologist Caroline De Costa.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration has granted Australia's largest reproductive health provider, Marie Stopes International, authorization to provide RU486 which induces miscarriage.
Women in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and the ACT can access the medical abortion pill at a total nine Stopes clinics. However, Tasmania does not have any Stopes clinics.
