Spain's bishops are urging Catholic lawmakers to vote against a bill that would ease the country's abortion law.
The Spanish Bishops Conference complained that legislation sponsored by the Socialist government describes abortion as a right that must be protected by the state. A statement issued Thursday by the conference calls that "a poisoned source of immorality and injustice."
Parliament is expected to take up the bill next month. Among other things it would allow abortion without restrictions up to the 14th week of pregnancy.
