A controversial abortion provider said he spent years under protection of federal agents as he defended himself Wednesday from charges of skirting medical law in Kansas
.
"I was notified that I was the number one person on an anti-abortion assassination list that had been found by the FBI," George Tiller testified as he detailed tight security restrictions imposed on his clinic.
Tiller, who runs one of the few clinics in the United States that provides late-term abortions, is charged with having an illegal financial and legal relationship with a physician who gave him second opinions required for the procedure.
The hit list was found in 1994, one year after Tiller was shot in both arms by an anti-abortion activist while driving away from his clinic.
